Description
(Spinacia oleracea var Viroflay) This French heirloom dates back to 1866. Also known as “Monstrueux de Viroflay” spinach, the huge, deep green, slightly savoyed, tender leaves are a spinach lovers gourmet delight. This very fast growing, huge spinach can grow up to 60cm in diameter, with 20cm leaves. No matter how big it gets, the leaves stay tender and delicious with lower levels of oxalic acid than other varieties.
Plant Viroflay spinach seeds for plants that are ready for baby leaf harvest in just 21 days or use the thinned out seedlings fresh in salads. Spinach is a cool season crop with seed that germinates very poorly, if at all, in hot soils. It is also very day length sensitive, and will bolt when temperatures reach 23°C. Matures in 40-50 days.
