Description
(Beta vulgaris var. cicla) This sweet, mild and delicious variety of stem-chard is also one of the earliest, ready in just 60 days. A white-stalked Italian heirloom variety, named after the Roman general Lucius Lucullus, it is particularly prolific with excellent heat and cold tolerance. The plants have an upright growth habit and grow to a height of around 50cm with a spread of 40cm. Lucullus is very versatile in the kitchen. The white, celery-like stems are deliciously succulent when cooked like asparagus and served with butter. The large, tasty leaves make a fantastic alternative to spinach, crisp salad greens or as a flavoring in soup or rice. Holds well after cutting. 60 days.
