Description

This is the most commonly grown Habanero and one of the easiest to grow. Closely related to the Scotch Bonnet, these are fiery hot and extremely pungent with an aromatic flavour and a clean but very intense heat - up to 350,000 Scoville units. This is probably the most prolific Habanero variety we have grown.

The fruits grow to 2.5cm x 4cm in size and are produced on a shrubby bush up to 70cm tall x 70cm wide. The fruits are ready to pick at around 100 days after transplant and the plant will continue cropping as long as suitable conditions are maintained. The fruits ripen from green to light orange.

Often used in Mexican and Caribbean cuisine, try using them whole so that the flavour infuses dishes such as fish stews, casseroles, sauces and curries. They are also good for making chutneys and chilli sauces. The Habanero, when ripe or dried and powdered, has a unique apricot scent.
