Cylindra Beetroot (Formanova)

Description

A wonderful Heirloom from Denmark and introduced to the Americas in the 1900's, this beet is famous for slicing with its long, cylindrical roots. Produces much more uniform slices than round beets. This sweet tasting variety with dark red flesh is also known as "Butter Slicer" because of its wonderful texture and the roots are so tender that you can eat them with the skins on.

These beets tend to push up out of the ground when they reach a decent size so it is easy to tell when to harvest. Hill some soil up around the plants to keep skin on the top part of the roots tender. 55 days.
