Description

The incredibly long list of synonyms for "Brandywine" attests to its high regard and popularity in home gardening circles. This one's a worldwide favourite. Unlike the other colours of Brandywine, this one has regular leafed and not potato leafed foliage.

The Brandywine gives us the taste we crave in tomatoes: mellow, creamy, rich, and sweet. The absolutely perfect balance of sugar and acid. It is rumored to have been saved from extinction by the late, great tomato collector Ben Quisenberry.

This variety dates back to the late 1800s and is regarded as one of the world’s finest flavoured beefsteak tomatoes ever offered and a fine representative of the heirloom family. The Brandywine's thin skin prevented it from being shipped long distances, thus it was not widely grown commercially.

The fruits are large (average 340 grams but can grow to 900 grams), reddish-pink, with light, creamy flesh and, for a beefsteak tomato, are quite blemish and crack free. Offering an outstanding rich tomato taste, the meaty red flesh delivers consistent high quality and delivers old-fashioned, home grown, real tomato flavour.

Indeterminate (vine) variety.
