Description

Australian Brown (Allium cepa) is a late maturing intermediate day brown onion. Large bulbs are firm and globe-shaped and have a small root plate and thin neck, globes are pungent yet very flavourful. Australian Brown has good yield potential and it's thick, brown paper coating makes this an excellent storage onion.

The best time for direct sowing is in August or, where seedlings are used, the seed should be sown at the end of April to the beginning of May and transplanting will then be done in the first half of August. 100 days.

A Spanish onion heirloom dating to at least the 1800's, Ferry Morse Seed company is credited with originally obtaining this Spanish onion but sold it to W. Atlee Burpee in 1897, who then released it under the name Australian Brown onion.
